چکیده

The introduction of downsized, turbocharged Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engines in the automotive market has led to a rapid increase research on Low-speed Pre-ignition (LSPI) and super-knock as abnormal combustion phenomena within last decade. former is characterized an early ignition fuel–air mixture, primarily initiated by oil–fuel droplet or detached deposit. Meanwhile, occasional development from pre-ignition high intensity knocking through detonation, which either shock wave interacting with propagating reaction cylinder surfaces inside hotspot suitable heat release reactivity gradient. phenomenon can be divided into four stages, including LSPI precursor initiation, establishment propagation pre-ignited flame, autoignition end-gases detonation. are rare phenomena, difficult observe optically engines, differences methodologies setups between steady-state experiments lead discrepancies results. Experimental included more detailed approaches using glow plug-equipped constant volume chambers compression machines. In addition, improved availability mechanisms for fuel lubricant surrogates allowed researchers model interaction at walls, evaporation droplets regimes different modes wave. This paper presents comprehensive review underlying behind its super-knock. Furthermore, it methodology experimental draws conclusions mitigating strategies based studies involving fuel, oil engine parameters. Finally, discusses prerequisites future needs original equipment manufacturers (OEM) industry have already adopted some proven solutions their products.

Pre-ignition in Highly Charged Spark Ignition Engines – Visualisation and Analysis

Highly boosted spark ignition engines must confront violent forms of pre-ignition limiting the maximal low-end torque. French research institute IFP presents here an innovative tool allowing a better understanding of this phenomenon and a structured reasoning considering all potential causes of this phenomenon. Advanced statistical analyses of the combustion process and direct visualisations in...

Chaotic combustion in spark ignition engines

We analyse the combustion process in a spark ignition engine using the experimental data of an internal pressure during the combustion process and show that the system can be driven to chaotic behaviour. Our conclusion is based on the observation of unperiodicity in the time series, suitable stroboscopic maps and a complex structure of a reconstructed strange attractor. This analysis can explai...

Cold start modelling of spark ignition engines

The ability of mean value models to replicate the key characteristics of automotive powertrains has been well established over the past four decades. There has been considerable success in the application of these models to controller design, with improved emissions and performance of the primary benefits. However, these low order models typically must make certain assumptions about the engine—...

Alternative Fuels for Spark Ignition Engines

In order to reduce the atmospheric pollution emitted by automobiles, control devices are being incorporated in the vehicles in many countries. This has resulted in a reduced vehicle mileage to the extent of about fifteen percent. Without the introduction of new technology, any further reduction in emission levels would be expected to extract payment in the form of further fuel economy losses. I...
